Welcome!

Welcome to PortageParentsSpeak.com. This website was created to serve as a gathering place for Portage Parents so they may come together for discussion and find support on issues affecting the community, their families, and their children. Not everyone is able to join a committee, attend meetings, or volunteer, and not everyone has a subscription to a local newspaper, receives the free local newspaper, or is able to watch the local news to keep abreast of current issues. Unfortunately, those without computers or internet access will be missed as well via this website. There are even those who try to understand, but due to the complexities, only having certain information shared, and some politics, they still don’t quite understand the ins and outs involved with the issues they are facing.

An invitation for those officials and administrators who can help clarify any questions on issues affecting the community will be extended as well. This website is not meant to be a venue for venting only; rather one in which information can be adequately and accurately conveyed and shared, where members can offer support to others, and one in which the community can speak collectively – and even possibly bring about change as a result when necessary.

Trying to find answers is a daunting task, and the information contained on this website is a result of an earnest attempt at doing so. Clarification on any misconceptions shared here are more than welcome. People sincerely want to know about it, learn about it, and understand it. Without either understanding it or learning about it, they cannot make truly informed or responsible decisions nor form educated opinions of which they are fully capable.

This website received its name as a “play” on the acronym of Portage Public Schools (PPS) and was created by a Portage Parent who wishes to remain anonymous at this time. While the website was created initially due to the Portage Public Schools 2009 Proposed Boundary Changes, it may go beyond, as it doesn’t have to end there. This will depend greatly on response and participation over the next couple of months.

The site also contains Message Boards for discussions, which also include a place to list/advertise your garage sale for free, and a place to list those local hard-to-sell and large items for free! The Message Boards also contain access to a community calendar where events of potential interest are listed, as collected via the newly distributed 2008 Summer Entertainment Series! Feel free to recommend any other events you feel the community may be interested in!

Enjoy!
